20kg-grass-seed-mix-for-airport-landscapes
20kg Grass Seed Mix for Airport Landscapes

This is a grass seed mixture made up mainly of two tall fescue cultivars, chosen for their upright, stiff growth and strong resistance to frost and drought. Tall fescue is easy to keep at its ideal mown height of 150 mm, and managing airport grassland at this height has been shown to cut the number of birds struck by aircraft in flight. Annual ryegrass is added as a nurse crop, germinating quickly and providing early ground cover while the tall fescue establishes.

Key Features

Very high resistance to frost and drought

Exceptionally quick germination, helped by the annual ryegrass nurse crop

Upright, stiff growth habit from the tall fescue cultivars

Ideal mowing height of 150 mm

How to Use

Sowing Rate (g/m²)

Overseeding Rate (g/m²)

Mowing Height (mm)

20

10

150

Sowing New Areas

Get the surface ready before sowing, making sure that:

Stones and weeds have been cleared away.

Drainage is adequate.

The surface is level and firm.

The surface is moist.

Spread the seed evenly at the recommended sowing rate, to a depth of roughly 10 mm.

Keep the surface moist for a minimum of 2 - 3 weeks.

Take the first cut once the grass has reached 5 - 6 cm in height and tillering has begun.

Overseeding Existing Turf

Prepare the turf by clearing out excess thatch and cutting back on irrigation and fertiliser.

Apply at the recommended overseeding rate.

For the best results, use a disc seeder or a studded seed roller.

Applications

Airport grassland managed at 150 mm to help reduce bird strikes on aircraft in flight

Airport landscapes

Specifications

Weight: 20kg

Main species: tall fescue (two cultivars) with annual ryegrass nurse crop

Sowing rate: 20 g/m²

Overseeding rate: 10 g/m²

Mowing height: 150 mm

Mixture Composition

%

Cultivar

Species

20

Debussy

Tall fescue

75

Essential

Tall fescue

5

Quickston

Annual ryegrass – turf type

Notes

Cultivars are subject to availability and may differ from those listed.

If some varieties are in short supply, they may be replaced with a suitable alternative; any change to the mixture is clearly marked on the bag label.

Packaging may vary.
