1.5kg Plant Growth Regulator for Turf Management
This is a 1.5kg professional plant growth regulator, proven to regulate the growth of managed amenity turf effectively. Its active substance, prohexadione, blocks the gibberellic acid pathway, reducing turf height and biomass while encouraging root growth and keeping turf colour and quality intact. Prohexadione is activated in the tank when water is added, so growth regulation begins quickly after application.
Key Features
- Formulated for fast foliar uptake - growth regulation can start as quickly as 4hrs after application
- Superior performance against Poa annua pioneering
- More even growth control across all grass species
- Extended growth regulation on fine turf grass species
- Reduces turf height and turf biomass while promoting root growth
- Turf colour and quality are maintained
How to Use
Where to use: managed amenity turf.
When to use:
- Apply when grass is growing steadily and air temperatures are between 7°C — 21°C.
- The first application can be made once 450 growth degree days have accumulated in the year (zero GDD model).
- Further applications can follow every 21 days from that point.
- Application window: April to September.
Mixing and application*:
- Fill the spray tank with 3/4 of the required water.
- Before adding any other products, take out the top hat filter and pour the granules straight into the tank while agitating the water.
- Keep agitating until the granules have fully dissolved, then add the remaining water through the top hat filter.
- Apply one hour after mowing, in slow drying conditions.
Additional information:
- When mixing with hard water, use the lowest stated water volumes.
- The ideal spray solution pH is 4.5 - 5.5.
- Always add this growth regulator to the spray water before any other product.
- Apply it together with 2.5 kg/ha of supplementary nitrogen.
- Do not mix with fertilisers that contain calcium, magnesium or boron.
- Replace the lid straight away, as the granules quickly absorb moisture from the air.
- Do not apply to stressed turf or in direct sunshine.
- Do not irrigate for at least four hours after application.
* Application rates depend on turf height and on whether Poa annua is present - see the tables below.
Turf Height > 8 mm - golf tees, surrounds and fairways, sports pitches, race courses, tennis
| Situation | Application Rate | Water Volume | Supplementary Nitrogen | Spray Quality | Application Interval |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poa annua is present | 750 g/ha | 300 - 600 L/ha | 2.5 kg N/ha | Medium | 21 Days |
| Poa annua not present | 750 - 1,500 g/ha | 300 - 600 L/ha | 2.5 kg N/ha | Medium | 21 Days |
Turf Height < 8 mm - golf greens, bowling greens, fine ornamental lawns
| Situation | Application Rate | Water Volume | Supplementary Nitrogen | Spray Quality | Application Interval |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poa annua is present | 375 g/ha | 300 - 600 L/ha | 2.5 kg N/ha | Medium | 21 Days |
| Poa annua regulation | 500 - 650 g/ha | 300 - 600 L/ha | 2.5 kg N/ha | Medium | 21 Days |
| Poa annua not present | 650 - 1,500 g/ha | 300 - 600 L/ha | 2.5 kg N/ha | Medium | 21 Days |
Tank mix companions
Option 1: tank mix with ammonium sulphate to:
- Hold the spray solution in the optimal range of pH 4.5 - 5
- Supply supplementary nitrogen at 2.5 kg N/Ha
Option 2: where applying nitrogen is not wanted, use a pH indicator followed by a turf pigment. Suitable products:
- Water conditioner
- Turf pigment at 1.2 L/ha
Applications
- Managed amenity turf and amenity grassland
- Golf tees, surrounds and fairways, sports pitches, race courses and tennis (turf over 8 mm)
- Golf greens, bowling greens and fine ornamental lawns (turf under 8 mm)
Reported results from users
- A head greenkeeper at one golf club measured a clip rate of 25.9 ml/m² before using this growth regulator; the day after application clippings had dropped to 17.7 ml/m², a reduction of almost 32%.
- A football club running a programme with this product all season on its natural grass pitches at both training ground and stadium reports a 50% cut in mowing frequency and clipping volumes, saving considerable time and cost.
- The head groundsman at a rugby club, for whom PGRs are a key part of improving turf and controlling Poa annua, reported results far better than expected in a particularly difficult Poa year (2020).
- The head greenkeeper at another golf course estimated Poa at 70 percent in 2019; after starting applications in May and combining it with reseeding, the greens are now 70 percent Bent.
