Which type do you need?
| Type | What it does | Typical use | Keep it off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selective | Controls broad-leaved weeds and leaves established grass standing. | Lawns, sports turf, amenity grassland and paddocks. | Beds, borders and any broad-leaved plants you want to keep. |
| Total | Non-selective: kills the green growth it touches, grass included. | Paths, drives, fence lines and clearing ground before seeding or line marking. | Any turf or planting you want to keep. |
| Long-lasting | Residual: stays active in the surface to hold back regrowth. | Gravel, hard surfaces and around established trees and shrubs, where the label allows. | Ground you plan to seed or plant soon. |
| Moss & algae | Treats moss in turf, or green growth on hard surfaces. | Lawns, paths, patios and hard courts. | Lawn and hard-surface products are not interchangeable: check which one the label covers. |
| Specialist | Targets one problem weed or situation named on the label. | Only the weed and situation the label names. | Anything the label does not cover. |
| Fungicide | Controls or reduces the turf diseases named on the label. | Managed amenity turf such as greens, tees and sports pitches. | Turf under drought, heat stress or frost, where the label says so. |
| Insecticide | Controls the insect pests named on the label. | Only the crops and situations the label lists. | Anywhere the label does not list. |
| Biological | Living organisms such as nematodes, or natural treatments, that act on a pest or problem. | Lawns, borders and soil, in the conditions given on the pack. | Frozen, very dry or waterlogged ground. |
| Adjuvant | Added to the spray tank to help a product spread, stick or mix. It does nothing on its own. | Tank-mixed with the products it is approved for. | Mixes it is not approved for. |
