Pelargonic Acid Contact Herbicide 10L - Fast-Acting Weed, Moss & Algae Killer (MAPP 13102)
A professional, fast-acting contact herbicide based on pelargonic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid. It gives rapid post-emergence knockdown of young, actively growing broad-leaved weeds and grasses, mosses and algae – treated plants start to collapse within hours, and top growth is often completely burnt down within 24 hours.

Key Features
- Controls a broad spectrum of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and grasses, mosses and algae, and is effective on horsetail
- Fully biodegradable in plants and soil
- No residual activity – ideal as a directed spray for annual weeds where systemic herbicides could cause unwanted damage
- Does not harm the woody parts of plants, so it can be used under shrubs and trees
- Low risk of resistance developing
Weeds Controlled
| Grasses | Annual Herbs | Perennial Herbs |
|---|---|---|
| Annual meadow-grass (Poa annua) | Red dead nettle (Lamium spp) Chickweed (Stellaria media) Knotgrasses (Polygonum spp) |
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) Greater plantain (Plantago major) Creeping thistle (Cirsium arvense) |
Also controls mosses and algae. As it does not work systemically, established broad-leaved perennial herbs may need repeat treatments and regrowth may not be prevented.
Where to Use
- Amenity grassland – semi-natural or planted grassland under minimal or non-intensive management
- Amenity vegetation – any semi-natural or ornamental vegetation, including trees (see the product label for susceptible non-target plants)
- Managed amenity turf – frequently mown, intensively managed turf, including fields used for turf production
- Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation – areas of soil or natural rock outcrops not intended to carry vegetation
- Various fruit and vegetable crops
How to Use
When to use: between 1st May and 1st September, on young weeds and when temperatures are above 15°C. Do not apply until weeds have established and ground cover is around 25%.
| Crop | Maximum Treatments | Pack Coverage | Application Method | Application Rates | Water Volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amenity grassland & managed amenity turf for moss control | 1 | 588m² | Watering can (for control of mosses in decorative lawns and turf) | 17ml/m² | 1l/m² |
| Amenity vegetation | 4 | 588m² | Conventional knapsack sprayer | 17ml/m² | 100ml/m² |
| Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation (weed control) | 8 | 588m² | Conventional knapsack sprayer | 17ml/m² | 100ml/m² |
| Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation (moss control) | 4 | 588m² | Conventional knapsack sprayer | 1 ml/m² | 100ml/m² |
- Pour half of the water needed into the spray tank (in hard water areas use rainwater or soft water).
- Add the required quantity of herbicide and agitate thoroughly.
- Top the tank up with water to the level needed.
- Use straight away, making sure target weeds, moss or algae are thoroughly covered. For moss, thorough coverage is essential – repeat if required.
How It Works
Pelargonic acid belongs to the group of herbicides with an unknown mode of action. It is thought to penetrate the waxy leaf cuticle and destroy cell membranes, causing rapid desiccation of the cell contents. Only plant tissue that the spray touches is affected.
Restrictions & Notes
- Do not spray directly onto, or allow drift onto, cultivated plants; use a spray shield to keep spray off the leaves or fruit of cultivated crops.
- Avoid applying within 5 m of the field boundary to reduce effects on non-target insects and other arthropods.
- Rain within 12 hours of treatment may reduce effectiveness.
- Some temporary scorch or bleaching and reduced growth of treated turf is likely after applying to grass or turf.
- Do not apply to drought-stressed grass or in freezing conditions.
- Do not mow for one day after treatment.
Professional Use
This is a professional pesticide. By law, everyone who uses pesticides professionally must have received adequate training in using pesticides safely and be skilled in the job they are carrying out. Always read the label and product information before use, and follow the HSE Code of Practice for using plant protection products.
