250 ml Fungicide for Turf Disease Control

Overview

This is a contact and systemic fungicide that controls Microdochium Patch (Fusarium), Red Thread, Anthracnose, Dollar Spot, Leafspot and Rust in amenity turf at any time of year. It combines two trusted active ingredients with different modes of action, tebuconazole and trifloxystrobin, for protection on and within the leaf.

Key Features

  • Active ingredients: 200 g/L Tebuconazole and 100 g/L Trifloxystrobin
  • Contact and systemic action from two different modes of action
  • Controls Microdochium Patch (Fusarium) (Microdochium nivale), Red Thread (Laetisaria fuciformis), Anthracnose (Colletotrichum cereale), Dollar Spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa), Leafspot (Drechslera spp.) and Rust (Puccinia spp.)
  • Can be used at any time of the year
  • Up to 4 applications per year
  • Suitable for both knapsack and boom sprayers (vehicle mounted hydraulic sprayer)
  • Persistence: strong affinity with the waxy layer of the leaf
  • Protection: redistributed by superficial vapour movement
  • Prevention: systemic and translaminar activity give the potential for longer-lasting control
  • Forms a weather-resistant reservoir on the plant surface, which spreads the fungicide and allows continual penetration and replacement of the active ingredients
  • Rain-fast within 1 hour of application
  • Can be applied at very low temperatures, provided the turf is not frozen

How It Works

Tebuconazole

Tebuconazole is a triazole fungicide (part of the group often called the 'zoles') that acts as a demethylation inhibitor (DMI class of fungicides). Mode of action: DMIs block the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a major part of the plasma membrane of certain fungi that is needed for fungal growth.

Tebuconazole is an acropetal penetrant: it is absorbed into the plant and carried in the xylem vessels, so once inside the plant it moves upwards through the xylem. It works best when applied before visible disease symptoms appear, when conditions favour plant growth and possible fungal development.

Trifloxystrobin

Trifloxystrobin is in the QoI class of fungicides (Quinone outside Inhibitors).

Mode of action: a mesostemic, broad-spectrum fungicide with preventative and specific curative activity and good rain-fastness. It is redistributed by superficial vapour movement and also has translaminar activity, moving between the two surfaces of the leaf.

Mesostemic fungicides bind strongly to the leaf surface and form a barrier against infection. A small amount penetrates the leaf and moves to the opposite, untreated surface, protecting both sides of the leaf. They inhibit spore germination so the disease cannot penetrate the turf, which means the plant tissue is not damaged and the turf does not waste energy fighting disease.

Mobility

All QoI fungicides show translaminar movement (meaning 'across the lamina', or leaf blade). When applied, most of the active ingredient is first held on or within the waxy cuticle of the plant surface, and some 'leaks' into the plant cells beneath.

For fungicides with an affinity for the waxy cuticle, such as trifloxystrobin, active ingredient that leaks right through the lamina quickly rebinds to the cuticle on the other side of the leaf blade. The fungicide is therefore found on both leaf surfaces even if only one side was treated. Translaminar movement can take from one to several days to become fully effective.

How to Use

When to Apply

The two active ingredients work together: they act as a barrier to spore germination, move through the leaves to give translaminar protection, and penetrate the leaf blade to be carried systemically in the xylem, giving greater ongoing protection throughout the plant.

For the best control, apply when disease is highly likely, for example when dew settles on the leaf blade and overnight temperatures are mild. Because tebuconazole is systemic, the product works best when the turf is actively growing so that the fungicide moves through the plant.

Rain-fastness and Low Temperatures

This fungicide has been proven rain-fast within 1 hour of application. Once the spray has dried on the leaf, rain will not affect its ability to control disease, thanks to the combined contact action and systemic properties. It can be applied at very low temperatures as long as the turf is not frozen.

Application Rates

For control of Leaf Spot, Microdochium Patch (Fusarium), Red Thread and Dollar Spot, use 1 litre of the product in a minimum of 400 - 500 litres of water per hectare of turf. Control of Anthracnose and reduction of Rust may also be achieved.
