50g Herbicide for Broad-Leaved Weeds and Grasses
This is a long-lasting residual herbicide based on flazasulfuron, supplied in a 50g bottle. Once applied, it stays active on the treated surface for up to 5 months, forming a barrier that stops susceptible broad-leaved and grass weeds from emerging on a range of non-crop surfaces and around amenity vegetation.
Key Features
- Residual activity on treated surfaces for up to 5 months
- Pre-emergence control: creates a surface barrier that prevents germination of a wide range of broad-leaved and grass weeds
- Suitable for a number of non-crop surfaces and for use around amenity vegetation
- 50g bottle treats 3333m² for up to 5 months
- Active ingredient: 25% w/w flazasulfuron
How to Use
When to Use
This herbicide works best when applied from early to late spring, before weeds have germinated (application window: Feb, Mar, Apr, May).

It has only a limited effect on very young weeds, so it should generally be tank mixed with glyphosate to give effective post-emergence control alongside its long-lasting residual action. For best results, leave the surface undisturbed after application so the barrier stays active.

Mixing and Application
- Fill the spray tank with half of the water required
- Add the required quantity of herbicide and agitate thoroughly
- Top up the tank with water to the required level
- Use straight away
- For the longest persistence, do not cultivate or rake the treated area after application
- After use, clean the application equipment with a diluted ammonia solution
Applications
- Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation: areas of soil or natural rock outcrops that are not meant to carry vegetation
- Permeable surfaces overlying soil: any man-made permeable surface (other than railway ballast) laid over soil and not meant to carry vegetation
- Hard surfaces (railway ballast only): any railway ballast impermeable surface not meant to carry vegetation
- Amenity vegetation (around): any areas of semi-natural or ornamental vegetation, including trees (check the product label for susceptible non-target plants)

Active Substance: Flazasulfuron
Mode of action: flazasulfuron is an Acetolactate Synthase (ALS) inhibitor. Acetolactate synthase is a key enzyme in the production of branched-chain amino acids. ALS inhibitors block this process, so the plant first turns chlorotic, then its tissues become necrotic, and finally the whole plant dies.
Mobility: as a systemic penetrant, it is moved down through the plant in the phloem (the sugar-conducting tissue) and up through the plant in the xylem (the water-conducting tissue).
Application timing: residual ALS inhibitors work best when applied before weeds emerge.
Resistance: ALS inhibitor herbicides carry a high risk of resistance, especially in grass weeds such as black-grass, Italian rye-grass and wild oats. To lower this risk, follow the label instructions and rotate with herbicides that have different modes of action.
Notes
- A small number of weed species are not effectively controlled by this herbicide; see the label for details.
- A Local Environment Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) must be completed in line with CRD's published guidance before every spraying operation with a horizontal boom sprayer.
- Only for use on natural or porous surfaces, such as gravel, where the user can confirm that soil lies underneath, and on railway ballast.
- Must not be applied to any non-porous man-made surface.
- Avoid spray drift onto non-target plants.
- When treating around amenity vegetation, do not apply near plants that have been in the ground for less than 2 years.
- Do not allow direct spray to fall within 5 m (horizontal boom and train sprayers) or 1 m (hand-held sprayers) of the top of the bank of any static or flowing water body.
