5L Glyphosate Herbicide for Amenity Use
This is a professional systemic, penetrant total herbicide containing 360g/l glyphosate. Taken up through the foliage, it moves through the plant to kill not only the top growth but also the roots of most broadleaved and grass weeds.
It is suitable for tackling invasive, hard-to-control species such as Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed, gives strong control of broadleaved weeds and grasses across amenity and industrial sites, and may be used to control weeds both in and close to water. One 5L bottle treats up to 3.3ha at application rates of 1.5-10 l/ha.
Key Features
- Systemic action controls the whole plant, roots included
- Authorised for a broad range of situations, including in and around water
- Authorised for application with stem injection equipment, weedwipers and rotary atomisers
- Active ingredient: 360g/L glyphosate
- 5L bottle covers up to 3.3ha
Target Species
Controls most annual and perennial grasses and broadleaved weeds, including:
- Difficult weeds such as Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed
- Woody weeds such as bracken, bramble and sycamore
- Heathers and rhododendrons in forestry
- Tree stumps, to stop regrowth
- Aquatic weeds
Applications
- Amenity vegetation – any area of semi-natural or ornamental vegetation, trees included.
- Enclosed waters – any natural or man-made body of water that does not drain into a water course.
- Forest – groups of trees growing in their final positions, for example after planting out from a forest nursery.
- Hard surfaces – any man-made impermeable surface not intended to carry vegetation, such as concrete or asphalt, including railway ballast.
- Land immediately adjacent to aquatic areas – the banks of any water course or body of water.
- Natural surfaces not intended to bear vegetation – areas of soil or natural rock outcrops where no vegetation is wanted.
- Open waters – any natural or man-made body of water that drains into a water course or serves as a reservoir for domestic water supply.
- Permeable surfaces overlying soil – any man-made permeable surface over soil, such as gravel, that is not intended to carry vegetation (railway ballast excluded).
How to Use
When to apply
Spray once the grasses and broadleaved weeds have emerged, are growing actively and have enough leaf area to take in the spray – normally from March to October. Perennial broadleaved weeds are usually most susceptible at or close to flowering. Perennial grasses need fresh, green, vigorous leaves. Application must be followed by at least six hours, and preferably 24 hours, without rain.

Application rates
The correct dose, water volume and application equipment depend on where the product is being used and which weeds are being treated. Always check the product label for full details for your situation. As a general guide:
| Situation or type of weed | Application rate |
|---|---|
| Annual weeds | 1.5 - 4.0 l/ha |
| Perennial grasses | 4.0 - 5.0 l/ha |
| Perennial broadleaved weeds | 4.0 - 6.0 l/ha |
| Woody weeds | 3.0 l/ha |
| Heathers | 4.0 - 6.0 l/ha |
| Rhododendron | 10 l/ha |
Conventional hydraulic tractor-mounted and knapsack sprayers
- Fill the spray tank with half of the water needed.
- Add the required quantity of herbicide.
- Top the tank up with water to the correct level and agitate to mix thoroughly.
- Use straight away.
Other application methods
- Rotary atomisers: use a spray volume of no less than 40 l/ha with a droplet diameter of at least 200 microns.
- Weed wipers: dilute at 1:1 or 1:2, depending on the type of weedwiper.
- Stem injection: 2 ml of undiluted product per cut.
- Cut stumps: dilute at 1:9 for deciduous species or 1:4 for coniferous species.

Active Substance: Glyphosate
- Bio-chemical mode of action: glyphosate is in the Inhibition of Enolpyruvyl Shikimate Phosphate Synthase (ESPS) group of herbicides. These herbicides block the shikimate pathway, which the plant relies on to make the proteins it needs to grow and survive.
- Mobility: as a systemic penetrant, glyphosate is carried downwards through the plant in the phloem (sugar-conducting tissue) and upwards in the xylem (water-conducting tissue).
- Application timing: ESPS herbicides work best on actively growing weeds and are usually more effective on younger plants in their vegetative stages.
- Resistance: by 2018, resistance had been recorded in 38 weed species across 37 countries, in 34 different crop and 6 non-crop situations.
Notes
- Speak to the relevant water regulatory body before using the product in or near water.
- Keep the spray off non-target plants.
- At least 6 hours, and preferably 24 hours, of dry weather must follow application.
- For best results, treat established perennial weeds as they begin to flower.
- Do not spray in windy weather.
- Do not spray weeds under drought stress or in frosty conditions.
- First signs of effect can appear anywhere from a few days to 4 weeks after treatment, depending on weather and weed type.
- Leave treated weeds for at least 7 days before cultivating or applying lime, fertiliser, manure or pesticides.
- Some tougher weeds may need more than one treatment.
