5L Herbicide - Broad Spectrum Selective Control
SKU TCP735
Overview
This is a professional, broad spectrum selective herbicide with systemic penetrant action, supplied in a 5L pack. It is ideal for taking out broadleaved weeds such as creeping buttercup, daisies and dandelions on intensively managed turf, including golf fairways, semi roughs, tees and surrounds, as well as winter sports pitches.
Key Features
- Broad spectrum, selective control of broadleaved weeds
- Systemic penetrant herbicide containing 600g/l 2,4-D as the 2-Ethylhexyl Ester
- The ester form of 2,4-D is absorbed rapidly through the leaf surface, especially in cooler air temperatures (< 21°C)
- Works best when plants are actively growing and forming flower buds, making it a strong choice for spring treatments
- Just one application per year at 2l/ha
- Emulsifiable concentrate formulation
How to Use
Where to use
- Amenity grassland – semi-natural or planted grass areas that receive minimal or non-intensive management, such as airfields, mainly grassed railway embankments and roadside verges
- Grassland – short and long-term grass leys and permanent pasture that may be grazed and/or cut for feeding to animals, including newly sown leys and moorland used for grazing
- Managed amenity turf – intensively managed turf that is mown frequently (at least once a week), including turf production fields; this can include public areas such as all types of sports turf and golf greens, tees and fairways
When to use
- Best results come from spraying weeds during their period of fastest growth, usually as flower buds start to form
- Use the growth stage of the weeds to time application; suitable stages are normally reached between March-September
- Strong, vigorous sward growth at the time of treatment reduces the chance and vigour of any weed regrowth
How to apply
- Apply 2l/ha in 200-500l/ha of water to amenity grassland, grassland or managed amenity turf
- Use vehicle mounted or handheld sprayers fitted with a medium spray quality nozzle, at a spray pressure of 2-3 bar
- Applying a low rate of fertiliser ten days before treatment helps weed control and the recovery of the sward afterwards
| Crops | Maximum treatments | Application method | Application rate | Water volume | Spray quality |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grassland | 1 per year | Vehicle mounted or Handheld equipment | 2l/ha | 200 - 500l/ha | Medium |
| Amenity grassland | 1 per year | Vehicle mounted or Handheld equipment | 2l/ha | 200 - 500l/ha | Medium |

Notes
- Keep livestock off treated areas for at least 2 weeks after treatment. Where ragwort is present, keep them off until the ragwort has fully recovered or died and no dead weed can be seen. Do not include ragwort in hay or silage crops.
- Do not spray in windy or very still conditions, in rain, or if rain is forecast within 6 hours
- Do not apply during drought or frosty weather, or when frosts are expected
- Do not apply to grass that is suffering from drought
- Do not mow for two days before or one day after spraying
- Do not use on newly sown grass within six months of establishment
- Do not sow any crop into treated soil for at least 3 months after application
- Do not use the first four mowings for mulching
- Prevent contact with non-crop plants outside the target area
- Do not use in fields next to susceptible crops
- Do not contaminate water with the product or its container
- Take great care to avoid overdosing when spot-treating patches of weeds; too much can scorch the grass, and scorched weeds take up less herbicide, giving poorer control
- A spray pressure of 2-3 bars is recommended
About the Active Substance: 2,4-D
- Bio-chemical mode of action: 2,4-D is one of the synthetic auxin group of herbicides. These cause rapid, abnormal cell growth and development in the stems, petioles and leaves of susceptible plants, which makes cells burst and eventually kills the cells and the plant.
- Mobility: as a systemic penetrant, 2,4-D moves down through the plant in the phloem (the sugar conducting tissue) and up through the plant in the xylem (the water conducting tissue).
- Application timing: synthetic auxins work best on actively growing weeds and are usually more effective on younger plants in their vegetative phase.
- Resistance: resistance to synthetic auxins remains relatively uncommon, thought to be because the herbicide acts at multiple sites. Even so, resistance has been seen worldwide, with 36 species confirmed resistant as of 2017. Good practice, such as alternating with products that have a different mode of action and using cultural weed control methods, helps reduce the risk of further resistance.
