5L Liquid Humate Micronised Soil Enhancer
This high-performance micronised liquid humate is supplied in a 5L container. Produced from a naturally occurring source, it works on several fronts at once, acting both within the soil and as a component taken up by the plant, while the micronised formulation keeps all of the original natural properties intact.
The formulation is designed for enhanced, highly efficient foliar absorption and has been developed specifically for tank mixing.
Key Features
- Active ingredient: 100 % natural, pressure-extracted Leonardite, containing 20.5 % humic acid and 4.5 % fulvic acid
- Micronised suspension formulation for enhanced foliar absorption
- Made specifically for tank mixing
- Research trials showed a 10 % rise in nitrogen use efficiency when used alongside granular fertiliser, reducing the amount of fertiliser needed
- Research trials showed a 30 % rise in nitrogen use efficiency when used alongside foliar fertiliser, reducing the amount of fertiliser needed
Benefits
- Supports the soil's natural nutrient cycling and biological processing within the rhizosphere
- Improves soil structure by encouraging clay particles to flocculate through a protective colloidal action
- Raises the soil's nutrient bank (Cation Exchange Capacity) by adding more cation exchange sites
- Binds insoluble metal ions, oxides and hydroxides so they become slowly available to plant roots
- Stabilises molecules of toxic substances and helps bacteria to break them down
- Buffers plants against excess sodium in the soil by interacting positively with the molecular charges between sodium cations and soil particles
- Once absorbed into the leaf, the humates are metabolised into simpler plant acids, giving an immediate biostimulant effect
- Improves fertiliser uptake efficiency, allowing overall inputs to be reduced, thanks to:
- the natural chelating properties and improved leaf penetration retained by the pressure-extracted humates
- even coverage across the leaf surface provided by the micronised suspension technology
- Speeds up establishment of newly sown areas by boosting nutrient uptake within the plant and supplying polyphenols, which catalyse plant function, intensify cell division and so increase root and shoot growth
What Is in It?
Every humate compound has an important part to play in healthy soil life and plant function. In a healthy, naturally functioning soil, humates make up as much as 50 % of the soil organic matter complex.
Leonardite
Leonardite is a naturally occurring, oxidised mineral formed from concentrated deposits of humified plant material. It is rich in the organic substances that soil structure, soil biology and plants need in order to function well, and these substances are known to be lacking in many topsoils, growing media and sports turf profiles.
Humus
Humus is what is left after humification, the process by which microbes break down organic matter in the soil. It forms a stable part of the soil's organic matter and carries out many essential roles, interacting positively with soil particles, nutrients, soil biology and plants.
Humus underpins the naturally evolved functions and interactions between all the fundamental components and processes of an efficient, healthy soil biosphere. Growers and sports turf managers at every level increasingly recognise that respecting and nurturing these processes is central to producing high-quality, sustainable turf surfaces.
Humates
Humus is made up of a range of complex organic components, known collectively as humates. The main humates are:
- Fulvic acids – small, complex molecules making up the water-soluble fraction of humus. Their low molecular weight makes them highly biologically active, allowing them to dissolve minerals and elements into their structure, forming mobilised fulvic complexes. In this form they readily interact with, and are absorbed by, living plant tissue. Fulvic acid is nature's way of chelating metallic minerals into a bioavailable form, and it also captures and carries plant substances such as vitamins, amino acids, auxins, enzymes and hormones.
- Humic acids – complex molecules larger than fulvic acids, forming a fraction of humus that is not water-soluble. Humic acid is a major carrier of nutrients into plant roots, using a transfer mechanism that works as the plant takes up water: the negatively charged humic acid molecule attracts and bonds with positively charged nutrients (cations) in the soil, and these bonded molecules move with the water towards the roots and into the plant. Hydrogen, oxygen and carbon are the most plentiful elements in a plant's body and are obtained through photosynthesis and water. Once absorbed, the organic structure of humic acid has been shown to mobilise hydrogen and activate oxygen, driving core plant processes. Humic acid also supplies an extra carbon source for plants and soil biology, encouraging balanced and increased nutrient processing and uptake in the rhizosphere.
- Humins – closely linked to humic acids and also a fraction of humus that is not water-soluble. Humin molecules are stable, carbohydrate-like materials that form an aggregate component within the soil. They attract nutrients and organic molecules that would otherwise be tightly bound to soil particles, and give soil microorganisms a site where enzymes can process them into forms that go on to nourish other soil life and plants.
