5L Selective Herbicide 500g/l 2,4-D for Broadleaved Plants
SKU TCP296
Overview
This is a professional selective herbicide with systemic penetrant action, supplied in a 5L pack. It controls many broadleaved weeds, including Ragwort, in managed amenity turf and amenity grassland such as golf courses, playing fields, roadside verges and ornamental lawns.
Key Features
- Selective control of a wide range of broadleaved weeds, including Ragwort
- Systemic penetrant herbicide containing 500g/l 2,4-D
- Soluble concentrate formulation
- Ragwort is controlled most effectively at the rosette stage
- Up to 3 treatments per year on amenity grassland and managed amenity turf
How to Use
Where to use
- Amenity grassland – semi-natural or planted grass areas that receive minimal or non-intensive management, such as airfields, mainly grassed railway embankments and roadside verges
- Grassland – short and long-term grass leys and permanent pasture that may be grazed and/or cut for feeding to animals, including newly sown leys and moorland used for grazing
- Managed amenity turf – intensively managed turf that is mown frequently (at least once a week), including turf production fields; this can include public areas such as all types of sports turf and golf greens, tees and fairways
When to use
- Apply to actively growing grass (usually from April to September) that has been established for at least 12 months
- Annual weeds are most susceptible at the seedling stage
- Perennial weeds are most susceptible as the flower bud forms
How to apply
- Apply 2.8 - 3.3l/ha in 100 - 1000l/ha of water to amenity grassland, grassland or managed amenity turf
- Use vehicle mounted or handheld sprayers fitted with a medium spray quality nozzle
- Top dressing ten days before treatment helps weed control and the recovery of the sward afterwards
| Crops | Maximum treatments | Application method | Application rate | Water volume | Spray quality |

| Grassland | 1 per year | Vehicle mounted or handheld equipment | 2.8 - 3.3l/ha | 100 - 1000 l/ha | Medium |
| Amenity grassland | 3 per year | Vehicle mounted or handheld equipment | 2.8 - 3.3l/ha | 100 - 1000 l/ha | Medium |
| Managed amenity turf | 3 per year | Vehicle mounted or handheld equipment | 2.8 - 3.3l/ha | 100 - 1000 l/ha | Medium |

About the Active Substance: 2,4-D
- Bio-chemical mode of action: 2,4-D is one of the synthetic auxin group of herbicides. These cause rapid, abnormal cell growth and development in the stems, petioles and leaves of susceptible plants, which makes cells burst and eventually kills the cells and the plant.
- Mobility: as a systemic penetrant, 2,4-D moves down through the plant in the phloem (the sugar conducting tissue) and up through the plant in the xylem (the water conducting tissue).
- Application timing: synthetic auxins work best on actively growing weeds and are usually more effective on younger plants in their vegetative phase.
- Resistance: resistance to synthetic auxins remains relatively uncommon, thought to be because the herbicide acts at multiple sites. Even so, resistance has been seen worldwide, with 36 species confirmed resistant as of 2017. Good practice, such as alternating with products that have a different mode of action and using cultural weed control methods, helps reduce the risk of further resistance.
