Selective Herbicide 1L – Aminopyralid & Triclopyr for Japanese Knotweed, Hogweed & Brambles (MAPP 19069)

Overview

A professional selective herbicide containing 12g/l aminopyralid and 120g/l triclopyr (MAPP 19069). It is a systemic, penetrant, contact and foliar-acting herbicide that controls perennial broad-leaved, herbaceous and woody weeds including Japanese knotweed, buddleia, giant hogweed, nettles, thistles, brambles, common mugwort, gorse and rosebay willowherb. The active substances move quickly through the target weeds, giving excellent control of the whole plant from tip to root.

Key Features

  • Effective on tough and invasive weeds including Japanese knotweed, giant hogweed, buddleia and brambles
  • Rainfast in 1 hour
  • Controls broad-leaved weeds without damaging grasses
  • Controls the whole weed from tip to root
  • For amenity grassland including golf roughs, railway embankments and roadside verges
  • Spot treats difficult weeds at 150-200ml in 10L of water

How to Use

Where to use

On all amenity grassland (except airfields or land that will be grazed by livestock), including golf roughs, railway embankments and roadside verges. Amenity grassland means areas of semi-natural or planted grassland under minimal or non-intensive management.

When to use

It can be applied once per year when applications are made between 1st March and 1st June. Applications after this are restricted to one application in 2 years (1st June - 31st August) or one application in 3 years (1st August - 31st August).

Mixing and applying

Apply with a knapsack sprayer or a suitable lance from a tractor-mounted sprayer, using a solution of 150-200ml per 10L of water.

  1. Half fill the spray tank with water.
  2. Add the required amount of herbicide and agitate to mix thoroughly.
  3. Add the remaining water and continue to agitate.
  4. Keep the spray solution agitated while spraying.

Spray target weeds so they are thoroughly wetted, but not so much that the solution runs off the leaf. After application, avoid cutting the grass for at least 7 days so the active substances can move fully down to the roots.

Additional Information

  • Must not be used on airfields or land that will be grazed by livestock.
  • Must not be used where the vegetation will be cut for animal feed, fodder or bedding, or for composting or mulching, within one year of treatment.
  • Spot applications should cover no more than 20% of the area.
  • Take care to avoid contact with non-target plants.
  • Do not use within one year of sowing seed.
  • Apply only when the grass and weeds are actively growing.

Active Substances: Aminopyralid and Triclopyr

Bio-chemical mode of action: aminopyralid and triclopyr belong to the synthetic auxin group of herbicides. Synthetic auxins cause rapid, abnormal cell growth and development in the stems, petioles and leaves of susceptible plants, making cells burst and ultimately killing the cells and the plant.

Mobility: both are systemic penetrants, so they are carried downwards through the plant in the phloem (sugar-conducting tissues) and upwards in the xylem (water-conducting tissues).

Application timing: synthetic auxins work best when weeds are actively growing, and are generally more effective on younger plants in their vegetative phase.

Resistance: resistance to synthetic auxins remains relatively low, thought to be because they have multiple sites of action. Resistance has nevertheless been seen worldwide, with 36 species confirmed resistant as of 2017. Alternating with products that have a different mode of action and using cultural weed control will help reduce the risk of further resistance.
