Bat Box with Two Chambers and Ladder Grooves
This conservation bat box has two vertical chambers and a sloping, cut-away front with ladder-style grooves, so bats can grip easily and choose the roosting space they prefer. Its self-cleaning design lets droppings fall naturally to the ground.
Key Features
- Two vertical roosting chambers
- Sloped, cut-away front with ladder-style grooves for easy gripping
- Hinged roof secured with a removable screw (earlier versions had a brass catch), allowing licensed bat workers to inspect when needed
- Handmade from robust, untreated certified timber, selected for its durability, breathability and insulating qualities
- Timber left untreated because bats are highly sensitive to smell; only water-based paints should be used for any decoration
- Self-cleaning design: droppings fall naturally to the ground, so no cleaning access by a licensed handler is needed
How to Use
- Fix the box high up, between 2.5m and 5m, on a building or mature tree using the pre-drilled hanger.
- The best aspect is North, South West or South East, where the box gets only partial sun through the day.
- Siting the box along existing bat flight paths or feeding routes improves the chance of it being occupied.
Specifications
- Material: Untreated certified timber

Notes
Please note: bats are a Schedule 1 protected species under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. It is illegal for any member of the public to disturb a roost, or to handle or kill any bat, so bat boxes must only be inspected by licensed bat workers. You can still monitor your box without disturbing it by looking for mouse-sized droppings beneath it, or by watching from a distance at dusk for signs of activity.
