Bracken Control Herbicide 5L/20L
This is a professional herbicide for bracken control, available in 5L and 20L, and is a long-established bracken treatment in the UK. Its active substance, asulam, targets bracken infestations and is moved throughout the plant to give effective control.
Key Features
- Contains asulam 400g/L as a soluble concentrate
- Translocated throughout the bracken plant for effective control
- Herbicidal symptoms are almost absent in the year of spraying, but there is little or no bracken re-growth the following season
- A programme of follow-up sprays can considerably extend the bracken-free period on treated land
- Ground-based applications can be enhanced with a non-ionic wetter/spreader
- Treated areas can be monitored and application accuracy improved with a spray pattern indicator
How to Use
Where to use
- Amenity grassland - semi-natural or planted grassland under minimal or non-intensive management, including airfields and mainly grassed railway embankments and roadside verges
- Forest - groups of trees grown in their final positions (pre-planting and in the first five years after planting only)
- Grassland - including short and long-term leys that may be grazed and/or cut for later animal consumption
- Moorland - land used for grass production for grazing
Aerial application is allowed on the crops above. A buffer zone of 90 m from water bodies must be kept, unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) allows a narrower one.
Ground-based application is permitted only on areas with:
- A statutory conservation designation, e.g. Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
- An Agri-Environment Scheme, e.g. Countryside Stewardship or Environmental Stewardship
A specific agreement with Natural England for bracken control that includes the use of this product must be in place.
When to use
Applications are permitted from the 1st July 2023 – 11th September 2023 only (application window: July, August and September).
- Primary treatment: spray bracken at full frond, when all fronds are fully expanded.
- Follow-up treatment: spray at the same timing as the primary treatment to prevent later re-growth.
Mixing
- Fill the spray tank half full with water.
- Add the required quantity of herbicide.
- Top up with water.
- Mix thoroughly before starting to spray.
