Granular Limestone Calcium Carbonate Soil Amendment

Overview

This is a granular limestone soil amendment that is carefully crushed and screened to give a consistent, finely granulated product that spreads well and works effectively. It naturally neutralises soil acidity, and its high neutralising value of 55.6% combined with fine granulation means it starts working faster than more coarsely ground liming products.

Key Features

  • Granular limestone
  • Crushed and screened for a consistent, fine granulation with excellent spreadability and efficacy
  • Neutralises soil acidity naturally by reducing the quantity of acidifying free hydrogen ions
  • High neutralising value of 55.6%
  • Fine granulation acts faster than more coarsely ground liming products
  • Suitable for all turf, including fine turf

How It Works

Over time soils can become more acidic through both natural and management processes, such as the acidifying effect of rainfall and the use of fertilisers. As acidity rises, nutrients become less available and plant health can decline. This limestone counteracts that by neutralising the acidity.

How to Use

  • Follow a laboratory recommended liming requirement.
  • The amount needed depends on the current and target pH and on the soil type.
  • Limit individual applications to:
    • 50-120 g/m² for established turf
    • 50-1000 g/m² for pre-seeding or other areas
  • Repeat annually or biannually until the requirement has been reached.
  • On larger areas, use a broadcast spreader to help apply it evenly.
  • On non-turfed areas or before seeding, work it into the top 15-20 cm of soil.
  • On established turf and borders, broadcast onto a dry surface. If no rain is forecast, irrigate with 25 mm of water to wash it off the plants and into the soil.

When to Use

Ideally, incorporate it into the soil up to six months before seeding so the neutralisation process has time to take place. On established turfgrass and borders it can be applied at any time of year, although it is most effective when applied in autumn.

Usage calendar: January to December (suitable in every month).

Applications

  • Managed amenity turf: frequently mown, intensively managed turf, including fields used for turf production, all types of sports turf and ornamental turf
  • Amenity vegetation: any semi-natural or ornamental vegetation areas, including trees
  • Ornamental garden plants: any plants not intended for consumption, including those grown in private gardens
  • Edible crops: any plants intended for consumption
