Overview

This water tractor is a travelling sprinkler that offers a very cost-effective, easy-to-run way of irrigating turf. It is ideal for lawns, cricket pitches, bowling greens and other areas that need precise automated watering with an automatic stop, and is best suited to light to medium use.

How to Use

Setting Up

Connect the hose pipe to a tap and lay it down the centre of the route you want to water, using wide, gradual turns where you can. Run the hose around obstacles to reach areas that might otherwise be missed.
Place the front wheel of the water tractor at the far end of the hose, with the sprinkler pointing back towards the tap. Loop the end of the hose back on itself and connect it to the water tractor.
Select a gear and turn on the water; the sprinkler will then follow the hose back towards the tap.

Stopping the Water Tractor

The water tractor switches itself off at any chosen point along the hose track using the supplied ramp. As the machine passes over the ramp, it presses a shut-off switch on the underside of the water tractor.

Please note: a little dripping from the shut-off switch while the sprinkler is running is normal and is not a fault.

Connecting to a Hose Pipe

Best suited to a 12.5mm (½ inch) inside diameter hose pipe.
A 19mm (¾ inch) hose is not recommended except for short runs, because the added weight of the hose and the water inside it can damage the internal gearbox.

Recommended Fitting: Snap-on Type Connector

When unpacked, the brass screw connector at the rear moves from side to side where it joins the plastic gearbox.
The brass screw is threaded to take a 19mm (¾ inch) diameter fitting.
Fit a 19mm (¾ inch) male threaded snap-on style connector into the brass screw connector and tighten it until the sideways movement is removed. At this point the rubber seals are drawn together to stop leaks.
This connector allows a 12.5mm (½ inch) hose pipe to be attached with a snap-on type coupling.
Please note: the snap-on fittings used may be plastic or brass.

Alternative Fitting: Claw-Lock Coupling

The water tractor can also be connected with a 19mm (3/4 inch) male threaded claw-lock coupling screwed into the rear of the gearbox.
With a claw-lock coupling, the thread depth is often not enough to remove the sideways movement in the brass screw connector, so a proper seal may not form and water can leak.
To prevent this, fit a nylon or rubber pack washer behind the claw-lock coupling.
