Turf Fungicide 1L – 500g/l Mefentrifluconazole for Dollar Spot & Microdochium (MAPP 20599)

Overview

A professional 1 litre fungicide for managed amenity turf, based on the new active substance mefentrifluconazole (MAPP 20599). It is an acropetal penetrant and translaminar fungicide with curative ability, giving fast, effective control of a range of fungal pathogens including dollar spot and microdochium.

Key Features

  • Contains a new and innovative active substance, mefentrifluconazole
  • Absorbed rapidly into the leaf, where it is protected from rain and UV degradation
  • Held in a reservoir inside the leaf that releases the active slowly, for long-term protection of up to 28 days
  • Binding to the target enzyme is unique to this active substance, so it keeps giving high levels of control as fungal strains change
  • Excellent binding with different fungal strains reduces the risk of resistance
  • Provides preventative and curative control

Boom spraying with a vehicle-mounted hydraulic sprayer

  1. Half fill the spray tank with water.
  2. Begin agitation.
  3. Add the required amount of fungicide to the tank.
  4. Complete filling.
  5. Continue agitation until spraying is finished.

Spot treatment with a knapsack or hand-held sprayer

  1. Half fill the spray tank with clean water.
  2. Add the required quantity of fungicide to the tank.
  3. Complete filling and mix thoroughly.
  4. Use immediately.

Up to 300l/ha Knapsack Sprayer

Additional Information

  • Do not allow direct spray from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5 m of the top of the bank of a waterbody (unless a LERAP permits a narrower buffer zone).
  • Do not allow direct spray from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1 m of the top of the bank of a waterbody, and aim spray away from water.
  • After spraying, wash out the sprayer thoroughly and dispose of washings and clean containers according to the DEFRA Code of Practice and local authority guidelines.
  • To avoid resistance, alternate this fungicide with other fungicides that have a different mode of action.

Active Substance: Mefentrifluconazole

Bio-chemical mode of action: mefentrifluconazole belongs to the sterol biosynthesis in membranes, or DMI (Demethylation Inhibitor), class of fungicides. DMIs work by inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a major component of the plasma membrane of certain fungi that is needed for fungal growth.

Mobility: mefentrifluconazole is an acropetal penetrant: after application it diffuses through the cuticle and is carried upwards through the plant in the xylem (the water-conducting tissues). Water potential sets the speed of movement, so the fungicide reaches the leaf tips faster in conditions that also favour rapid transpiration. It also has some translaminar movement (across the leaf blade), so it is found on both sides of the leaf even when only one surface was treated.

Application timing: it has effective curative activity but is best applied preventatively, when disease risk is high but symptoms are not yet visible on the leaf.

Resistance: resistance to DMI fungicides depends on mutations in multiple genes in the pathogen, so it is harder to develop than with some other fungicide groups, and resistance to one DMI will not necessarily mean resistance to another. DMI resistance has, however, been recorded; it is best avoided by rotating with fungicides that have different modes of action and by applying DMIs before disease develops, so plants are protected when fungal spore activity increases.

Safe Use of Pesticides
