Drop Spreader for Precise Application
This drop spreader uses an innovative setting dial to make changing the spreader setting quick and easy. It is built to last, simple to use and gives accurate applications of granular materials.
Key Features
- Innovative setting dial: makes adjusting the spreader setting straightforward.
- Large stainless-steel hopper: sealed securely to stop leaks, so even the finest products, such as creeping bentgrass seed, stay contained.
- Heavy-duty frame: a robust build that copes with regular use and harsh conditions for reliable, long-term service.
- Pneumatic turf tyres: spread the weight evenly to avoid damaging the turf and move smoothly over different surfaces.
- Ergonomic extended handle: designed for comfort to reduce operator fatigue on longer jobs.
- Open/shut-off control: makes it easy to control the flow of material and work more efficiently.
- Front and rear lift handles: allow safe, simple lifting for easier transport and handling.
- Removable rain cover: keeps the product protected when applying in poor weather.
- 3 year warranty: supplied with a three-year limited warranty.
How to Use
Follow the steps below to get the best results from the spreader. Before the first use, and from time to time afterwards, check that the left and right sides of the spreader are aligned (see the calibration section).
Step 1. Check the spreader before use
Inspect the spreader carefully to make sure it is clean and free from any debris left from an earlier job.
Step 2. Check the material
Make sure the product is in good condition, flows freely and is suitable for use in a precision drop spreader.
Step 3. Set the aperture
- Move the on/off lever to the closed position (towards the handle grips).
- Undo the centre thumb screw on the orange setting dial so the dial can turn.
- Turn the setting dial to the position needed for the required application rate, using the 1 to 25 scale.
- When the chosen number lines up with the arrow on the hopper, turn the thumb screw clockwise to lock the setting.
Step 4. Fill the hopper
- Keep the control lever in the off/closed position (towards the handle grips) while filling.
- Fill the hopper evenly across its full width.
- Always fill in a safe area, away from places where an accidental spill could cause damage.
Step 5. Spread the material
- Push the spreader at a brisk walking pace of about 5 km/h.
- Before treating the area, apply a single header strip at each end of the area.
- Push the on/off lever forward to open the aperture as you begin walking forward.
- At the end of each run, pull the on/off lever back to the closed position to shut the aperture.
- Material is applied between the wheels, so passes must overlap. Overlap the wheel tracks on each return pass to prevent striping.
Step 6. Clean the spreader after use
Always empty out any leftover product once the application is finished and dispose of surplus material properly.
- Turn the spreader upside down to empty unused material from the hopper. Some extra work may be needed to clear any that remains.
- Turn the orange setting dial to the fully open setting (25). Lift the left wheel slightly and spin it to turn the agitator and push out any trapped product, then do the same with the right wheel to clear that side.
- Wash the hopper thoroughly with clean water, paying particular attention to the area around the two agitator bars inside the hopper and the on/off shutter bar.
Make sure the hopper is completely dry before the spreader is used again.
Calibration
The spreader is calibrated at the factory. It has two agitators that work independently, driven by the left and right wheels, which keep material flowing evenly through the hopper aperture.
Pre-use alignment check
It is recommended that you check the left and right sides of the spreader are aligned before first use and periodically afterwards.
Calibration key
A calibration key for checking alignment is supplied with the spreader.
How to calibrate
- Set the dial: set the dial to 13 and open the shutter.
- Reach the aperture holes: stand the spreader on its handles so the holes are easy to get to.
- Insert the calibration key: count four holes in from either the left or right side and insert the key into the fourth hole. It should be a snug fit up and down. Repeat on the other side to check it is snug there too.
Resetting the alignment
If the shutter bar becomes misaligned and is not damaged, it can be reset. This is easiest with two people.
- Loosen the locking knob: undo the black locking knob in the centre of the orange setting dial.
- Open the shutter bar: push the on/off lever on the handle to the 'on' position.
- Turn the spreader over: place it upside down, ideally on a workbench.
- Loosen the retaining bolts: undo the 10mm bolts on each side of the shutter bar. There are four in total, two on the left and two on the right.
- Insert the calibration key: pull the shutter bar back with your left hand and insert the key into the fourth hole from the right-hand side.
- Insert A4 paper: fold a sheet of A4 paper in half and slide it between the shutter bar and the hopper to avoid overtightening.
- Tighten the bolts: keep a hand pressed firmly on the shutter bar to apply slight downward pressure, then tighten the bolts while keeping the key snug in the hole. Check that the mounting plates are parallel, then tighten the lock nuts.
- Remove the paper: take out the folded A4 sheet, then tighten the black knob on the orange setting dial, which should be set to position 13.
- Repeat on the other side: insert the key into the fourth hole from the left-hand side and repeat steps 6 and 7 on that side.
- Check the fit: the key should now sit snugly up and down in every hole.
Troubleshooting
If the holes are still out of line, the spreader may be damaged, and a new shutter bar, parts or even a complete hopper may be needed.
