20kg Tall Fescue Grass Seed for Airport Landscapes

Overview

This is a grass seed mixture made up mainly of two tall fescue cultivars, chosen for their upright, stiff growth and strong resistance to frost and drought. Tall fescue is easy to keep at its ideal mown height of 150 mm, and managing airport grassland at this height has been shown to cut the number of birds struck by aircraft in flight. Annual ryegrass is added as a nurse crop, germinating quickly and providing early ground cover while the tall fescue establishes.

Applications

Airport grassland managed at 150 mm to help reduce bird strikes on aircraft in flight
Airport landscapes

How to use

From bare soil to a fine lawn

Sowing New Areas

Get the surface ready before sowing, making sure that:
- Stones and weeds have been cleared away.
- Drainage is adequate.
- The surface is level and firm.
- The surface is moist.
Spread the seed evenly at the recommended sowing rate, to a depth of roughly 10 mm.
Keep the surface moist for a minimum of 2 - 3 weeks.
Take the first cut once the grass has reached 5 - 6 cm in height and tillering has begun.

Overseeding Existing Turf

Prepare the turf by clearing out excess thatch and cutting back on irrigation and fertiliser.
Apply at the recommended overseeding rate.
For the best results, use a disc seeder or a studded seed roller.
