20kg Turf Type Tetraploid Perennial Ryegrass
This 20kg grass seed mixture is based on tetraploid perennial ryegrass, bred specifically for rapid installation and tolerance of stress. Its tetraploid cultivars establish quickly even when soil temperatures are low and root deeply, helping with drought tolerance and disease resistance, while the diploid cultivar in the blend adds high shoot density and greater wear tolerance.
- Oversowing perennial ryegrass turf
- Oversowing Bermuda in the transition zone
- Turf under extensive management conditions
Key Features
Better sward quality after stress
In southern and continental parts of Europe, this tetraploid mixture recovers better from drought and heat stress as well as from winter stress, outperforming ordinary diploid ryegrasses.
Rapid installation
The tetraploid seeds are 1.5 times larger than those of normal turf grasses. They produce stronger seedlings that establish faster, leaving less opportunity for weeds to take hold. This makes the mixture an ideal choice for oversowing perennial ryegrass, and it is also very well suited to oversowing Bermuda in the transition zone, giving fast establishment and excellent turf quality but no more clippings.
Better disease resistance and stress tolerance
The mixture offers improved disease resistance in both warm and cold conditions. In trials running from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean it has shown greater resistance to F.E. rust, Fusarium, Elminthosporium, Drechslera and Red Thread, and it is very well suited to extensive management conditions.
Good wear tolerance
In German trials, the tetraploid varieties Double and Tetragreen scored 8 for sport/wear conditions on a 1-9 scale. Their deeper root systems also improve shear strength.
Notes
Some varieties may occasionally be in short supply, in which case an unavailable variety may be replaced with a suitable alternative. Any change to the mixture will be clearly shown on the bag label.

From bare soil to a playing surface
Sowing
- Prepare the surface before sowing, making sure that:
- Stones and weeds have been removed.
- Drainage is adequate.
- The surface is level and firm.
- The surface is moist.
- Spread the seed evenly at the correct sowing rate, to a depth of approximately 10 mm.
- Keep the surface moist for at least 2 - 3 weeks.
- Take the first cut once the grass reaches 5 - 6 cm tall and has begun tillering.
Overseeding
- Prepare the existing turf by removing excess thatch and cutting back on irrigation and fertilisation.
- Apply at the correct overseeding rate.
- For the best results, use a disc seeder or a studded seed roller.
